To celebrate 26 years of MUTTS, we’re asking readers to tell us what the strip means to them and to share some of their best memories of Mooch, Earl, and the rest of the crew.

We are appreciative of all the messages we’ve received, and we will continue sharing your responses throughout the coming months — so please comment below if you have memories to share. With Christmas near, this edition of “What MUTTS Means To You” is about sharing heartwarming memories of MUTTS. Thank you for the love!

“I remember reading the comics, and I would always pick MUTTS and Peanuts to read. The sheer joy of reading them and getting them in my email every morning makes it better. The ‘Footprints’ comic strip is by far one of my favorites ’cause our dogs are rescues, and it teaches the act of being present for someone else and that being a helping hand can make the most significant difference.” — K. “I have been reading MUTTS for the last 25 years, and it’s the best comic strip out there. I just love everyone in the strip, including Miss Lulu. I bought the ‘Pet Psychic‘ t-shirt, and lo and behold when I was in the grocery store a lady asked me if I do house calls!” — Ellen B.

“I had the truly wonderful experience of meeting Patrick when he was in Columbus, Ohio attending the Cartoon Crossroads event. When we were chatting as he was signing my books, I became that little kid with many questions to ask but totally forgot them when the opportunity presented itself. I truly don’t have the words to express what MUTTS strips means to me. They range from thought-provoking to funny. I’ve been a MUTTS follower for about a year now, and it brings me such happiness. You have such a gift, Patrick. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. I hope our paths cross again.” — Daryl W.

“My mother introduced me to MUTTS many years ago and would send me ones she particularly enjoyed. I found them in a drawer recently and enjoyed them all over. Mom died in 2006, so they meant even more. Thank you!” — Catherine K.

“I remember when MUTTS joined my comic lineup. My Dad read us the comics since I can remember, and I took the paper for years just for the comics. MUTTS is just awesome! Thank you for sharing them with us over the years.” — Joyce C.

“MUTTS has been a part of our family from the very beginning! My mom, whose nickname was Millie, absolutely loved MUTTS. On a chance meeting with my brother-in-law, Patrick drew a picture of MUTTS sitting in Millie’s lap and autographed it to her. She was so thrilled to have it! Thank you so much for doing that, Patrick; I can’t tell you how much it meant to her.” — Rosanne N.

“I have followed MUTTS for years. I have a five-year stack of daily comics I review when I’m feeling blue. There is a shelf in my bookcase dedicated to ‘MUTTS Stuff.’ I’m almost 90 years old and a loyal fan. The MUTTS gang provides happiness for all ages.” — Victoria

My favorite Mutts memory has to do my father-in-law who loved Mutts. He would cut out his favorite strips from the newspapers and tape them to the refrigerator. We lost him 5 years ago, but Mutts always brings back warm memories of a wonderful man who loved all animals.
